Concerta is a central nervous system stimulant prescription medicine. This medication is used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder – ADHD. It affects chemicals in the brain and nerves that contribute to hyperactivity and impulse control. It works by changing the amounts of certain natural substances in the brain. Methylphenidate belongs to a class of drugs known as stimulants. Concerta tablets are used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children 6 years of age and older, adolescents, and in adults up to the age of 65.

It can help increase your ability to pay attention, stay focused on an activity, and control behavior problems. It should be used as a part of a total treatment program for ADHD that may include counseling or other therapies to organize your tasks and improve listening skills. Take Concerta once each day in the morning. Taken by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor, usually once daily in the morning. Swallow the tablets whole with water or other liquids. Do not chew, crush, or break the Concerta tablets. Taking this medication late in the day may cause trouble sleeping (insomnia).
